As the new year of 2014 dawned, IWC unveiled the new Aquatimer series.
Related introduction posts have already been posted by Hookman and Medici on the replica IWC bulletin board in our forum.

As you know, the Aquatimer collection was first launched in 1967. The first Aquatimer produced at the time (model on the left of the photo above)
The Aquatimer (Ref. 3231, model on the right in the photo) from the Vintage Collection released in 2008 had an inner rotating type bezel.
However, as the general external non-rotating bezel shape made of sapphire glass became the mainstream of the Aqua Timer collection, the inner rotating type disappeared for a while.
However, the existing inner rotating type bezel has returned to the 2014 Aqua Timer models released this time. However, the direction of the bezel crown is different and the mechanism is also slightly different.

In this new model, the inner rotating type bezel has returned, but as mentioned earlier, the position of the rotating bezel crown is different.
As you can see in the photo above, it also has a tough notched external bezel. It is said that when you turn the outer bezel, the inner bezel also engages and rotates.
Like a regular dive bezel, this is also a non-reverse rotation type, and according to IWC, it is called a hybrid internal-external rotating bezel.

And the notched bezel shape of the new Aqua Timer is already
It is said to be inspired by the Ocean 2000 series released in collaboration with Porsche Design in the early 80s.
In many ways, this does not seem to be a coincidence when we remember that IWC & Porsche Design’s Ocean series at the time were also produced with titanium cases…

(In fact, products with a similar design can also be seen in fake watches from the German company Sinn in the early 1990s. Since the head of Sinn, Rotter Schmidt, used to work at IWC…)
