Hublot presents its first Big Bang in collaboration with tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic is a player who has left countless marks in the world of tennis, having won the most Grand Slams (24) and achieved a career Golden Slam and a career Super Slam, including the gold medal at the Paris Olympics this year. Hublot has been partnering with Djokovic since 2021, sharing the brand philosophy of “Be the first, be unique, be different.” Finally, this year, when Djokovic achieved the career Super Slam, the first results from his collaboration with replica Hublot are revealed.
The dial follows the style of the existing Big Bang Unico. All elements of the dial, including the date disc and index, are skeletonized to reveal the movement on the front. The symbol representing Djokovic is placed at the end of the second hand, adding to the specialness. The glass used in the watch is not the typical sapphire crystal, but Corning Gorilla Glass, a material we are familiar with as the glass in our smartphones. Hublot says that in order to pursue the lightest possible weight, they chose Gorilla Glass, which is only half the weight of sapphire glass.
The most distinctive feature of this replica watches is the material of the case. The goal was to make the watch as light as possible while maintaining strength so as not to strain the wrist during intense tennis matches. To achieve this, Hublot used aluminum in various places such as the case back, pushers, and crown. In addition, a new material was developed by recycling 25 HEAD rackets and 32 Lacoste polo shirts that Djokovic actually used during the 2023 season when he won his 24th Grand Slam title. The new material, which combines bio-based epoxy resin, reveals a camouflage pattern in blue, white, and gray. There are also details reminiscent of tennis. Instead of the existing H-shaped screw, a screw in the shape of a tennis ball was used, and the chronograph pusher at 2 o’clock and the fluorescent details placed here and there are also reminiscent of tennis balls. The case diameter is 42mm and the water resistance is 100m.
The movement is Hublot’s in-house automatic flyback chronograph caliber HUB1280 (frequency 4Hz, power reserve 72 hours). It has the same base as the movement mounted on the existing Big Bang Unico, but it was newly manufactured with aluminum instead of brass to make it lighter. Thanks to this, they say they were able to reduce the weight by 27% compared to the existing HUB1280. It is also finished with anodizing in light blue and gray tones that match the case. The rotor features the symbol of Novak Djokovic, the protagonist of the collaboration.
The limited edition features a rich composition. It comes with a Lacoste tennis band, a high-elasticity band, a fabric strap with an aluminum sports buckle, and a white rubber strap with a titanium deployant buckle. When combined with a high-elasticity material strap, the watch weighs 49.5 g, lighter than a tennis ball, and even with the heaviest rubber strap, it weighs only 75 g. Additionally, a Lacoste T-shirt with Novak Djokovic’s signature is included.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic Edition (Ref. 441.QKB.5120.NR.DJO24) is a limited edition of only 100 pieces. The domestic release price is 77.36 million won.
